Book Project Self Evaluations

We have several self-evaluation tools so you can eavaluate your own project.

Publishing Identity Standards

All titles must have the standard ISBN# to be classified as a published book to make it into the majority of the markets where books are sold. You can purchase a block of ISBN#’s at the link below. We recommend you get a block of 10 as your book will need a new ISBN# for each binding or form that your book takes from a soft cover book to a digital E-book.

A publishing identity simply means that you “package” yourself and your product into a recognizable entity with a publishing house name. The Book Connection can guide you through all of the publishing industry standards for any market direction that your project needs.

Administrative tasks to create an identity for your book project also includes more than just getting an ISBN# and a barcode which is created from your ISBN#. If your book is going into the library market you will need Cataloguing in Publication as well as a Library of Congress number once you have assigned an ISBN# to your project. All of these paperwork tasks also need to be incorporated into Books in Print to legitimize your book so that it will be accessible to anyone trying to locate your publishing house or your title.

Publisher Brand or Identity

The Book Connection can create your graphic identity with the help of a professional graphic designer. The standard package starts with a logo design. As a publisher, you will need the following standard identity package pieces:

  • Logo / Imprint Design
  • Business Cards
  • Stationery
  • Brochure
  • Catalogue

In addition to the above pieces of the publisher’s identity package, there is also the administrative task of identifying your book title through coding and the standard identification systems. The Book Connection can obtain the required ISBN#, CIP, LOC, UPC#, proper barcode form, and Books in Print paperwork to legitimize your book. Info about your title will need to be accessible to anyone trying to locate your book.
